Virat Kohli (973 Runs)

In the 2016 IPL season, Virat Kohli achieved a remarkable feat by scoring an unprecedented 973 runs in just 16 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore. This is the most runs scored by any batsman in an IPL season. His incredible performance included four centuries and seven half-centuries, which showcased his consistent dominance throughout the tournament. Kohli had a batting average of 81.08 that season, and he batted at a high strike rate of 152.03, helping his team reach the finals. His highest cricket score that season was 113 runs off 50 balls against Kings XI Punjab. This phenomenal performance earned him the coveted Orange Cap for scoring the most runs in the tournament. 

Shubman Gill (890 Runs)

In the year 2023, Shubman Gill played a major role in helping his team, the Gujarat Titans, reach the finals by scoring 890 runs. He batted brilliantly throughout the season at an impressive average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. He also scored three centuries and four half-centuries in this season. His highest cricket score was 129 against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, setting a new record for the highest individual score in an IPL playoff game. Although his efforts helped the Gujarat Titans reach the final, they missed out on the title. Jos Buttler (863 Runs)

In the 2022 Indian Premier League season, Jos Buttler of the Rajasthan Royals performed exceptionally well by scoring 863 runs in 17 matches. This remarkable performance earned him the Orange Cap as the highest run-scorer of the tournament. Buttler led Rajasthan to the final by batting at an impressive average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05. Throughout the tournament, he scored four sensational centuries and four half-centuries. His highest score was 116 against the Delhi Capitals. Although his brilliant batting led the Rajasthan Royals to the final, they eventually finished runners-up. He is currently a part of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2025.

Kane Williamson (735 Runs)

In the 2018 Indian Premier League season, Kane Williamson captained Sunrisers Hyderabad and put up a brilliant individual performance by scoring 735 runs in 17 matches.  This remarkable tally earned him the Orange Cap for being the highest run-scorer of the season. Williamson took the bowlers to task throughout the tournament at an impressive average of 52.50 and a solid strike rate of 142.44. He scored a total of eight half-centuries during the entire tournament, with his highest score being 84. Under his leadership, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the final, but lost to Chennai Super Kings in the final. He went unsold during the IPL Auction 2025; he is a part of the commentary team in IPL 2025. 

Chris Gayle (733 Runs)

Chris Gayle is considered to be the greatest batsman in IPL history. Even though legendary batsmen like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma have scored more runs than him, Gayle had a much higher status than these players in his time. He is the player who won the Orange Cap consecutively in the years 2011 and 2012. Meanwhile, in the year 2012, he performed his best by scoring 733 runs. He scored runs in this season at an impressive average of 61.08 and a blistering strike rate of 160.74, which includes one century and seven half-centuries. His highest score that season was 128*.  He also smashed a record-breaking 59 sixes throughout the season. Although his explosive batting did not lead RCB to the title, his performance is one of the most memorable in IPL history.
