The cricketing world is buzzing with anticipation for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, a landmark event set to enthral fans from September 30 to November 2, 2025. This 13th edition of the prestigious 50-over tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, marking a significant moment for women’s cricket in the subcontinent. India will host the Women’s World Cup for the fourth time, while Sri Lanka makes its debut as a co-host.
Eight formidable teams will vie for the coveted trophy. Alongside hosts India, the top five teams from the 2022-2025 ICC Women’s Championship – reigning champions Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka – secured direct qualification. The final two spots were determined through the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, with Pakistan and Bangladesh emerging triumphant. This diverse lineup promises a fiercely competitive tournament, showcasing the very best of women’s cricketing talent.
The tournament will adopt a round-robin format, ensuring each team faces every other participant once. This guarantees a comprehensive test of skill, strategy, and resilience throughout the group stage. Following the intense round-robin phase, the top four teams will progress to the semi-finals, leading to the grand finale. This format has consistently delivered captivating contests and is expected to do so again.
Matches will be spread across five prominent venues, with four in India and one in Sri Lanka. Bengaluru (M. Chinnaswamy Stadium), Guwahati (ACA Stadium), Indore (Holkar Stadium), and Visakhapatnam (ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium) will be the Indian host cities. R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will serve as the sole Sri Lankan venue. Notably, all of Pakistan’s matches, including any potential semi-final or final appearances, will be held in Colombo due to an agreement between the BCCI and PCB regarding neutral venues for matches involving the two nations.
The opening match on September 30 will see hosts India Women’s take on Sri Lanka Women’s in Bengaluru. 7-time World champions Australia will kick off their campaign against trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in Indore on October 1. A highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for October 5 in Colombo, a fixture that always draws immense global attention.
The significance of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 extends far beyond the boundaries of the cricket field. It represents a powerful platform for promoting women’s sport, inspiring future generations of athletes, and continuing the rapid growth of women’s cricket worldwide. With the increasing professionalism, rising viewership, and growing fanbase, this tournament is set to be a spectacle, further cementing the status of women’s cricket on the global sporting stage. The blend of established powerhouses and emerging talents, coupled with the passion of fans in the host nations, ensures that the 2025 Women’s World Cup will be an unforgettable chapter in cricketing history.
