Most Ducks in the IPL history

Most Ducks In IPL

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for its rain of runs. Fans remember this tournament for its big batting records, whether it is Virat Kohli's 973 runs in an IPL season or Chris Gayle's record of playing an innings of 175 runs during an IPL match. This tournament has captured the hearts of fans since its inception. But there are some records made in the IPL that hardly any batsman would want to remember. One of them is the record of getting out on "most ducks". Today, in this article, we will know about the 5 players in IPL history who have been out on zero the most number of times.

A "duck" in cricket means that the batsman is out without scoring any runs.  In a high-stakes tournament like the IPL, where every run counts and careers depend on performance, registering multiple ducks is a notable, albeit undesirable, achievement. It often brings scrutiny on the player, especially if they are a top-order batsman who is expected to open the innings.

1. Glenn Maxwell: The explosive Australian all-rounder, known for his aggressive batting style, surprisingly tops the list. His risky approach, along with several impressive innings, has often led to early dismissals. He played his first IPL match in 2011 and has been playing consistently in the IPL ever since. He has been dismissed for naught 19 times in a total of 139 matches so far. Maxwell has been playing for 4 IPL franchises so far. While in IPL 2025, He is playing for Punjab Kings, where he has also been dismissed for zero once.

2. Dinesh Karthik: An experienced wicketkeeper-batsman with a long IPL career, Karthik has also collected ducks several times. Despite his experience and finishing abilities, scores on his part have often failed to materialise. He has been dismissed for a duck 18 times in a total of 257 matches. He played his last IPL match in 2024.

3. Rohit Sharma: A great opener and one of the most successful captains in IPL history, Rohit Sharma also features prominently on this list. His aggressive intentions at the top of the order have sometimes led to early dismissals. He has also been dismissed for a duck 18 times in a total of 262 matches so far.

4. Sunil Narine: Primarily a bowler, Narine is often used as a pinch-hitting opener for Kolkata Knight Riders. While his strike rate is superb, this aggressive role has also led to some ducks. But, Sunil Narine has also been dismissed for a duck 17 times in a total of 180 innings.

5. Piyush Chawla: An experienced leg-spinner with a knack for picking up crucial wickets, Chawla has also registered a notable number of ducks in his IPL career while batting lower down the order. Interestingly, he hit the title-winning shot for KKR in the 2014 finals against Punjab Kings. Chawla is generally considered a tail-end batsman. Chawla has also been dismissed for a duck 17 times in a total of 92 innings.
